# Installation

Plakar Control Plane is delivered as a virtual appliance, a pre-built machine
image you deploy on your own infrastructure. This means your data never leaves
your environment, and you retain full control over your backup system.

Once the appliance is running, the first thing you do is enroll your instance.
Enrollment registers the appliance with `plakar.io` to automatically retrieve
your license and set up billing reporting. No backup data is ever transferred
during this process, only the consumption metrics needed for billing.
